If you've come to this page looking for a place to play 7 Card Stud online, once again my recommendation is Party Poker. The sheer number of players at that poker site makes table selection there fantastic. Other sites do deal 7 Stud, but with less players on the site, there simply aren't as many tables to choose from.

Seven Card Stud

The popular form of Stud Poker is dealt in casinos, at kitchen tables and even card rooms online. Players do not share community cards, as in holdem, but rather each have their own hand. Everyone's hand is a mix of "hole" (face down) and "up" (exposed) cards, with the first two and the very last (for a total of three) cards being dealt face down.

There are five betting rounds in Seven Card Stud. Each round is capped at four bets (a bet, a raise, and two re-raises).

Gameplay:

Everyone "antes" (puts a predetermined amount in the pot before the cards are dealt).

Each player is dealt three cards (two "down" cards and one "up" card). The "up" card is also known as the "door card" or "Third Street". The lowest "up" card must initiate the action with a "Bring-In" bet. (If two or more players have the same lowest card, the person who brings it in is determined by suit order progressing from clubs, diamonds, hearts, and spades.)

Once the first round of betting is complete, each player recieves another card, face up. This card is called "fourth street". From fourth street on, the highest hand showing begins the action by checking or betting.

If a pair is showing on fourth street, players have the option to make a single or double bet. If your opponent makes a single bet, you may call, raise a single bet, raise a double bet, or fold. If your opponent makes a double bet and you wish to raise, you may only raise an equal amount.

Once the betting round is completed, another card is dealt, face up. This card is known as fifth street. It is followed by the third round of betting - which doubles - and continues at this amount for the remaining betting rounds. The highest hand showing again starts the action by checking or betting.

Once again, after betting is complete another face up card is dalt. This card is known as sixth street. It is followed by another round of betting.

The final card is dealt down. The last card is also known as the river card, or seventh street. It is followed by the final round of betting.

Upon completion of the final round of betting, the best hand wins the pot.
