PokerStars Playing Cards
I spent some time playing at PokerStars, and at the end of my sessions I realized I had enough comp points built up to do some shopping at the Player's Store. Noticing that their branded playing cards were manufactured by Dal Negro, I absolutely had to have a set-up.
I think the set put me back 1,000 "frequent player points". I do know the one I received is not the same as the set up pictured in the PokerStars catalog. Instead of bright red and blue backs, coming in a green box, I received red and dark blue (black?) backings in a very classy burgundy box.

The packaging for the cards is pretty good eye-candy. The burgundy box with the gold "PokerStars.com" stamping on it is attractive. The decks each come inside their own plastic containers that are housed inside of the box, keeping them from mixing during travel or storage.
The cards themselves are standard index, bridge sized. For some reason I never even considered that they might be small cards, and I was disappointed with myself for not looking more closely into the size of the cards before I decided to order.

After opening the deck and going through a couple of riffles, I was completely disappointed. The cards did not turn out to be Dal Negros, but instead a couple of packs of StudKings that they must have had left over.
The Ace of Spades is stamped with the StudKing name on it, and the Dal Negro style face card design is completely absent.
The cards "feel" plastic, and not in a good way. More like they're of lower quality, and you can feel the stiffness of them more so than anything else.
I'd put this setup right above Prestige in the pecking order, which means they are behind everything else except Royals, third from the bottom.
I do plan on writing to Stars to see if they could replace these with the setup I thought I was ordering. To put it in perspective, a $30 Dan Harrington book is 1,500 points. I spent 1,000 on these cards, and they are simply no worth that much to me.
And They Responded:
They refunded my comp points. I don't have to send back the cards, and am waiting for the new run of Fournier cards to come out. So, I'm pleased. The quick of it is that the StudKings are still low quality, but PokerStars support gets a smile and a thank you from me for clearing up this matter.
