PokerRoom.Com Review
PokerRoom.Com is one of the quality poker rooms online. They have been around since the beginning of online poker, and have grown by paying attention to their customers, and offering an interesting product with interesting promotions.
Poker Room.Com has earned the eCogra Seal of Approval
Date: January 31, 2006:
PokerRoom.Com has a lot of positives. They have a no download option at the room, so you can not only play right away, you can play from any computer without worrying about adding programs. It is also a Mac-friendly poker room, and a Linux-friendly room because of the no download version.
They do have a download version of the room as well, so you can download the game to your regular computer and get into the action a bit faster on repeat visits.
The room has been around long enough to have developed all the amenities like a player rewards program where you can cash in comp points for merchandise. The merchandise that Poker Room.com offers is high quailty stuff, which is a stretch better than the logowear that dominates many online poker room comp point "stores".
The games being dealt are the limit/no limit/pot limit mix of holdem, omaha (and 8 or better), 7 Stud (and 8 or better), and Five Card Draw. There are actually players playing Five Card Draw as well, which is a good indication because sometimes rooms offer games, but the tables are empty. Besides the poker games, there is a set of table and slot games that you can play. This is definitely a poker room though, not a casino with a couple of poker tables.
The software has all of the basic features, you can take notes on the players (poker room lets you color code the notes, so in an instant you can see if you've tagged someone as a rock/fish/maniac/calling station/etc). There is a basic chat box, and an extended chat box, so you converse and still keep track of what the dealer is announcing.
One of the neatest features that they've introduced into their software is the private game/tournament feature. Players can set up private tournaments, and there is a lot of control over the game. You can choose between single and multi-table scheduled events. You can set the number of players per table (so heads up tourneys are possible), and have control over things like the speed of the blind increases, the prize structure (winner take all?), and of course the buy-ins, games and betting styles.
The website for PokerRoom.Com has a wealth of information on it. There are forums, where players can communicate with each other and those represnting the poker room. There is information on the Expected Values of the different hands as they have been played out at the room, articles, tutorials. Just a lot of good stuff.
Despite not being a regular player at the room, I'd put PokerRoom.Com near the top of the list. They definitely work hard to have a room where players can interact, and have control over the games in the room, so everyone is having the best time they can.
