College Poker
Currently, I can't find a single online poker room that is hosting a College Championship Tournament series. Of course, this is subject to change at any time, but for the moment, I'll run the risk of saying there is no game like this taking place in town anymore.
Originally, Royal Vegas Poker ran a contest that allowed college students, and only college students to compete against each other for scholarship prizes. There were a series of qualifiers that ran on weekends throughout the school year, and the event culminated in a championship tournament that took place live, face to face, in an exotic location.
The tournament series was so popular that I believe the first weekend drew enough contestants to freeze the poker room's servers. They simply weren't prepared for that kind of turn-out. That got straightened out in short order, and the College Poker Championship ran for at least two years.
Success like that is hard to keep a secret. So, it was no surprise when Absolute Poker followed with their version of a College Poker Championship. Prizes were a mix of practical and fun, with everything from laptop computers to iPods being offered.
I'm not sure how long Absolute ran their tournament series. I do recall that it eventually took on the name "Win Your Tuition".
Royal Vegas will cease poker room operations in Feb of 2007, so they certainly won't be hosting an College Poker events.
Absolute Poker has apparently terminated their involvement in any college related poker tournaments, citing "changes in the Online Gambling Industry".
In short, there used to be a College Poker Championship.
