Poker Tells - Misplaced Bet

Mike Caro is a noted poker author, and his book on Poker Tells is the leading resource on the topic.

This tell is based on the manner in which a player puts their chips into the pot.

Misplaced Bet
Here's a transcript of the video . . .

Where do your opponents put their bets?

Well, you say they put it them on the table in front of them, toward the pot. But that isn’t always exactly the case.

Now watch the man at the left. He’s betting his hand, but where? And what does it mean?

Look at the man in the middle. He has a pair of jacks. Look at where the player is making this bet. Well, that’s a total garbage hand.

Why would he be going out of his way to aggressively bet into a garbage hand? The answer is, it’s probably a bluff.

Now look at that guy in the middle. He can’t figure out why he’s being ignored. And neither should you. Whenever a player goes out of his way to avoid the true strength to bet into some kind of garbage hand, you should suspect a bluff.

Caro’s Law of Tells # 23: A misdirected bet is almost always a bluff.
